| Best ever residual values announced for Lancer |
- Lancer secures best residual values for petrol and diesel 4-door competitor variants
- Lancer Evolution X residual values as much as 4% ahead of main competition
- Lowest ever whole life costs ensure Lancer and Lancer Evolution X are the most competitive yet
Not only are the all-new Lancer and Lancer Evolution X taking the country by storm with their sharp styling, performance and value for money, they now also offer best ever residual values and great value ownership costs.
Lancer Residual Values
The all-new Lancer has been awarded excellent residual values by industry experts of up to 37% after 3-years / 60,000 miles for the 1.8 petrol and 2.0 diesel variants.
Jim Tyrrell, Managing Director for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK remarked that "for a 4-door saloon in the UK market to be so close behind a key competitor such as the Honda Civic 5-door is a very pleasing result for us. The designers and engineers have worked really hard on this vehicle, and it is good to see all that effort rewarded by the UK's experts".
Lancer Evolution X Residual Values
The Lancer Evolution X aims high and hits an impressive 39% residual value after 3-years / 60,000 miles, leaving some of its key competition well in its rear view mirror.
Lance Bradley, the UK's Sales and Marketing Director, commented that these strong residual values reflect the fact that "the new Lancer Evolution X has grown up, but lost none of its performance DNA. The SST versions are like three cars in one - for each of normal, performance and hard core track use. As such, it's no wonder they will be worth good money in the future."
Lowest Ever Servicing Costs
The strong residual values across the range complete a line up of lower-than-ever costs to keep the vehicles on the road, without punishing the owner's wallet.
- Service intervals on the Lancer range have been extended to 12,500 miles from 9,000 on the previous generation
- Lancer Evolution X has been extended to 10,000 miles versus 4,500 previously.
- The Mitsubishi Service Plan (MSP) will cost owners just £200 for 3-years servicing on all Lancer models
- MSP is set at just £400 for all Lancer Evolution X models.
- All new Mitsubishis come with a 3-year manufacturer's unlimited mileage warranty, which includes 3-years of pan-European breakdown and recovery service.
So, with excellent residual values, and the lowest ever running costs this makes the all-new Lancer family the best value for money it has ever been to keep fully maintained and hassle free. |
| Mitsubishi zero-emission i-MiEV one step closer |
- Lithium-ion battery research and development steps into the future
- Joint venture planned to accelerate availability of Mitsubishi electric vehicles to mass-markets
Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have created a joint venture with GS Yuasa Corporation to accelerate the development and production of lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion production is the only restricting factor in the final development of the i-MiEV and other Mitsubishi zero-emission electric vehicles, which Mitsubishi are currently looking to sell in the UK in 2009. The creation of a new joint venture - "Lithium Energy Japan" - stands as one of the biggest landmarks in the development of the new breed of electric cars.
Jim Tyrrell from Mitsubishi Motors UK commented, "The development and production of next-generation fuel sources is essential for the car industry as a whole and for Mitsubishi to lead the way exemplifies our commitment to new green technology."
Lithium-ion battery development has proven it can take green cars to the next level of practicability and refinement in the new i-MiEV recently seen in the UK. Just as mobile phones were propelled into a new era with slim, high-capacity, quick-charging lithium batteries the same is set to be true for Mitsubishi's motor industry plans.
GS Yuasa Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation began collaborating in May 2007. However, "Lithium Energy Japan" was established on 12th December 2007. The intent is to apply their comprehensive strengths in vertical value chains, covering natural resources, materials, development, manufacturing, sales, and the identification of new applications, and take advantage of their powerful synergy to advance the business. |
| Mitsubishi New Concept-RA |
Mitsubishi premieres the new Concept-RA to the world at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS or the Detroit Motor Show).
The Concept-RA fuses together three elements of Mitsubishi's core DNA - a passion for dynamic driving, stunning design and a heightened sensitivity for the environment - thanks to clean, efficient high performance diesel power.
This coupe concept features the S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system driveline and the Twin Clutch SST used in the Lancer Evolution X, is powered by a new high-output, high-efficiency clean diesel engine.
The vehicle's S-AWC driveline adds Active Steering and Active Suspension control to the ACD, AYC, Sport ABS and ASC component systems that comprise the system used on Lancer Evolution X. S-AWC integrally manages all of these systems to realize advanced levels of control over drive torque and braking, thereby upgrading traction, cornering and vehicle stability. All this adds up to intuitive, on-demand vehicle behaviour that faithfully reflects driver intent under all driving conditions, from everyday use to emergency avoidance situations.
Power comes from a new high-efficiency, low-emission 2.2-litre 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine with MIVEC - continuously variable valve lift and timing control. With piezoelectric injector common-rail direct fuel injection that allows a lower compression ratio and with a Variable Diffuser / Variable Geometry turbocharger, the clean diesel unit delivers a maximum output of 150 kW (204 PS) and maximum torque of 420 Nm (42.8 kg-m).
For compliance with U.S. emissions standards, the engine utilises a new catalytic converter system that brings together diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), NOx trap catalyst (NTC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies. The new diesel engine will deliver exciting driving manners with a high degree of fuel efficiency.
For improved crashworthiness and to reduce vehicle weight, the Concept-RA features a new body structure using an aluminium space frame made from extruded aluminium sections and die-cast aluminium members, as well as engine bonnet, bumpers and other outer panels made from high impact-resistant and easily recyclable plastic resin. |

| Mitsubishi hits double top |
Mitsubishi continues to record some exceptional results in the used car market in partnership with BCA. The most recent sale, staged at BCA's Measham auction centre in July, marked the used debuts of New Shogun and New Outlander.
Over fifty buyers registered for the sale, both in the auction hall and via BCA's Live Online service with both Mitsubishi Dealers and approved independent buyers bidding strongly throughout. A total of 120 cars were offered and sold, with the debut models proving the stars of the show. With mileages averaging around 2,000, the 06-registered debut models performed strongly - including options, New Shogun averaged 101% of CAP Clean, with New Outlander averaging 105% of CAP Clean.
Shogun BK LWB - 8,300 miles - £21,800 - 102% Vs Cap Clean
Shogun BK LWB - 1,700 miles - £26,600 - 101% Vs Cap Clean
Shogun BK LWB - 1,400 miles - £26,700 - 101% Vs Cap Clean
Outlander II - 5,000 miles - £21,000 - 108% Vs Cap Clean
Outlander II - 5,750 miles - £20,900 - 107% Vs Cap Clean
Outlander II - 2,000 miles - £21,000 - 106% Vs Cap Clean
Mitsubishi's Paul Greenwood, Used Vehicle Remarketing Manager, commented "This was an exceptional sale, well-presented by BCA and with strong bidding across the board from the large crowd of buyers. While the desirable New Shogun and New Outlander models took pride of place, there were strong supporting roles for Colt, Grandis, Lancer and L200 which all averaged in excess of CAP Clean. Prices were very strong and the overall performance exceeded our own high residual value expectations."
Alan Gupwell, BCA's National Remarketing Manager added "This sale saw strong bidding across the Mitsubishi model range with an excellent performance against CAP. The New Shogun and New Outlander models made assured debuts, which suggest both will continue to be highly desirable in the used market. Mitsubishi product is much sought after at BCA and this clearly reflects the strong retail demand being reported by dealers." |
| Colt blue leads Mitsubishi's supermini charge |
A specification-packed addition to the Colt family arrives at Mitsubishi dealers in time for September's registration plate change.
The three-door Colt Blue, priced at £8,499, is aimed directly at style-conscious drivers and, with free insurance and three years' free servicing included throughout September, it makes Mitsubishi ownership more accessible and more appealing to a younger audience.
Created following the success of the Red and Black models, Colt Blue comes with an array of interior and exterior kit along with guaranteed low running costs courtesy of a lively and charismatic 1.1-litre three-cylinder engine.
With a litre of petrol nudging towards £1, owners will enjoy infrequent fuel station stops thanks to a combined fuel economy figure of 49.6mpg while ultra-clean CO2 emissions of 135g/km place the Colt Blue in one of the lowest road tax bands. But, unlike some supermini rivals, being frugal doesn't come at the sacrifice of performance. Quickly shift through the slick five-speed manual gearbox and 0-62mph is dialled up in just 12.9 seconds and, where legal, this cool Colt will reach a 103mph maximum.
Of course, in typical Mitsubishi fashion, economy and performance are only part of the appeal. As well as the striking Atlantis Blue metallic paintwork and colour-coded bodywork features, Colt Blue sits on a set of smart 16-inch alloy wheels to create a striking sense of head-turning style.
And the colour co-ordination continues inside. The unique blue interior is complemented by a blue and black leather steering wheel and gear shift knob while the kit list includes everything the young man or woman about town could ever desire. As well as the remote central locking, electric front windows, CD player, sliding rear seat, ABS and twin airbags fitted to all Colts, the Blue adds automatic headlights, automatic wipers, seatback pockets, upgraded MP3-compatible six-speaker sound system and side airbags.
Like all Mitsubishis, the Colt Blue provides complete peace of mind ownership courtesy of an unlimited three year mileage warranty with pan-European breakdown cover. |
| Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX FQ-360 set for UK launch |
Mitsubishi Motors UK has unveiled a new and more powerful version of the iconic Lancer Evolution IX supercar. A development of the FQ-340, the new FQ-360 features a 366bhp version of Mitsubishi's 2.0-litre turbo engine. Available to order now, priced at £35,504, it reaffirms the 'Evo's' reputation as the everyday supercar, offering pace and practicality at an affordable price.
Making its debut at the British Motor Show, the new FQ-360 joins a three car Lancer Evolution line-up, consisting of the FQ-300, the FQ-320 and the FQ-340, all of which continue. Orders can be placed at any Mitsubishi Ralliart dealer with first deliveries expected in September.

The FQ-360 has been developed by engineers from Mitsubishi UK's motor sport and performance division, Ralliart, which was also responsible for the limited edition FQ-400. Launched in 2004, the FQ-400 was the fastest-ever production Mitsubishi and the new FQ-360 shares some of its key components.
Mitsubishi's engineers sought to improve the performance of the 1997cc 4-cylinder 4G63 twin scroll turbo engine with the introduction of a high pressure fuel pump and a high-flow catalytic converter, both of which were employed in the FQ-400. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has been fully reprogrammed to create a car that delivers 366bhp at 6887rpm and 363lb ft of torque at a lowly 3200rpm.
The torque output is the key to this car's character. The peak output of 363lb ft is 8lb ft more than the FQ-400 produced and is delivered 2200rpm lower down the rev range. It's also 18lb ft more than the FQ-340. We've worked hard to optimise the FQ-360's driveability, says Paul Brigden, general manager, Ralliart. We wanted to deliver the best possible driving experience, rather than concentrating on a headline-grabbing power output.
The FQ-360 may have been tuned for driveability, but that doesn't mean that its supercar-bashing performance has been compromised. This car will sprint from 0-60mph in an estimated 4.1sec and top 160mph. These figures underline Lancer Evolution's reputation as the supercar bargain. By comparison, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, which costs almost twice as much, takes 0.7sec longer to reach 60mph from rest.
Subtle exterior enhancements differentiate the FQ-360 from the rest of the Lancer Evolution range and improve its aerodynamic efficiency at high speed. One of the most obvious changes is the introduction of a carbon fibre front lip spoiler, which is attached to the front apron and provides additional downforce. At the rear, a carbon fibre 'sharks tooth' rear vortex generator helps to reduce aerodynamic lift.
Keen 'Evo spotters' will also note the introduction of a bespoke set of alloy wheels. Developed by Speedline, they mimic the five-spoke design of Mitsubishi's tarmac-spec rally car and are not available as an aftermarket option. The new alloys are shod with Yokohama ADVAN AO46 235/45ZR17 tyres, which are shared with the rest of the Lancer Evolution range.
The interior of the FQ-360 builds on that of the FQ-340 with one notable addition, the space below the stereo - which is used for oddments storage in the FQ-340 - is now occupied by a Ralliart Sports Meter Kit. Three dials display the battery voltage, oil temperature and boost pressure, providing extra, useful information to the enthusiastic driver.
Fears that the FQ-360 would be a stripped-out road racer can also be allayed. Its comprehensive specification includes climate control, all-round electric windows and electrically adjustable mirrors, a category 1 alarm and four airbags, proving that performance and comfort can go hand-in-hand.
The FQ-360's suspension steering is unchanged from the standard Evolution IX. The Evolution IX's Brembo brakes are also more than capable of coping with the increase in performance. The 17in ventilated discs with four piston callipers at the front and 16in ventilated discs with two-piston callipers at the rear are supplemented by Sports ABS and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD). EBD automatically regulates the front and rear braking force to match the vehicle load and driving conditions. |
| Cutting CO2 emissions |
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, with cooperation from the Aichi Industrial Technology Institute (Kariya, Aichi Prefecture), has developed an automotive interior material which uses a plant-based resin, polybutylene succinate (PBS), combined with bamboo fiber. Parts made from the material will be used in the interior of a new-concept minicar, to be launched in Japan in fiscal 2007. Mitsubishi Motors has dubbed its independently developed plant-based resin technology, including this PBS-bamboo fiber resin, Green Plastics. Mitsubishi Motors will continue to promote the development of environmentally friendly materials, directed toward increased practical applications.
In an effort to help stop global warming, slow the depletion of our oil reserves, and protect our forests, Mitsubishi Motors plans to substitute plant-based resins and quick-growing plant fibers for materials such as petroleum-based resins and wood hardboards used in car interiors. The use of these renewable plant-based resources, in principle, will add no CO2 to the atmosphere. Mitsubishi Motors began developing the materials in conjunction with the Aichi Industrial Technology Institute in 2004.
PBS, the main component of the material, is a plant-based resin composed mainly of succinic acid and 1,4-butanediol. The succinic acid for the material will be created through the fermentation of sugar extracted from sugar cane or corn. The new material combines bamboo fiber with PBS in order to increase its rigidity. Bamboo grows to its full height in just a few years, compared with the tens of years required for traditional timber, and as such may be called a potentially sustainable resource. Bamboo is available and can be grown in a wide variety of areas including Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. The use of Green Plastics may lead to further breakthroughs in the use of bamboo.
According to tests, this PBS/bamboo-fiber prototype achieves an estimated 50% cut in lifecycle CO2 emissions over polypropylene, a widely used petroleum-based plastic. VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels are also reduced drastically over processed wood hardboards (roughly 85% in testing).
In addition to Green Plastic, Mitsubishi Motors is undertaking development of environmental technologies including the MIEV (Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electric Vehicle)concept, and technologies contributing to comfortable interior environment such as Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified seating material, the Bio-clear Filter, and deodorant rooflining. Mitsubishi aims to build cars appropriate to this, the century of the environment.

| Spring launch for Colt CZC convertible |
The 76th Geneva Motor Show sets the stage for the world debut of the Mitsubishi Colt CZC cabriolet, the third and arguably most striking member of the award-winning Colt line-up.
Drawing inspiration from the CZ2 and CZ3 Tarmac concept cars that were shown at the 2001 Tokyo and 2004 Geneva motor shows, the Colt CZC features a sleek and sophisticated retractable metal roof that automatically folds back at the touch of a button to provide year-round driving versatility.
The Colt CZC shares its platform and basic architecture with the five-door Colt, taking advantage of its long 2500mm wheelbase and wide 1460mm front and 1445mm rear tracks for a secure and planted on-the-road feel and striking visual stance. Opting for this expansive wheelbase has also resulted in exceptional packaging - the Colt CZC has a 2+2 seating configuration and boasts a pair of occasional rear seats as well as a generous luggage compartment, even when the roof is retracted.
UK Line-Up
Arriving at UK dealerships in April, the Colt CZC will go on sale with a simple choice of two models - the £13,999 Colt CZC and £15,999 Colt CZC Turbo. Both are powered by an advanced all-alloy 16valve petrol engine, driving the front wheels through slick five-speed manual transmissions with bespoke ratios to maximise the engine's performance.
The top-line CZC Turbo borrows the 1468cc petrol engine from three-door Colt CZT. Developing 147bhp and 6000rpm and 155lb ft of torque at 3500rpm, the 1200kg CZC Turbo hits 62mph in 8.4seconds and has a 126mph maximum speed. Despite this hot hatch-rivalling performance, it returns 39.8mpg on the combined cycle and has a tax-friendly CO2 rating of 168g/km.
The naturally aspirated 1499cc powerplant in the 1110kg Colt CZC produces 107bhp at 6000rpm and 107lb ft of torque at 4000rpm - enough for a 10.5second sprint to 62mph and on to a top speed of 114mph, while returning 42.8mpg on the combined cycle and a CO2 level of 157g/km. Naturally, both engines are Euro IV compliant.
As with all current Mitsubishi models, the CZC comes laden with standard equipment, including 16inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, leather steering wheel and gear lever, radio/CD/MP3 stereo, four airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and integrated front fog lights.
Upgrading to the Colt CZC Turbo adds sports suspension, M-ASTC stability and traction control, part leather seats, a restyled front bumper and unique 16inch alloy wheels to the already long list of as-standard features.
The Colt CZC will be built in conjunction with renowned Italian design house Pininfarina which, along with Mitsubishi Design Europe, played a key role in the design and development of the Colt CZC. Production of the range will start at Pininfarina's Bairo plant near Turin, on March 7th. |
| Mitsubishi to unveil at 76th Geneva Motor Show |
A revitalised Mitsubishi Motors Europe unveils two radical new concept cars - Concept-EZ MIEV and Concept-X - as well as the striking new Colt CZC convertible at this year's Geneva Motor Show.
Making its world debut, Concept-EZ MIEV spearheads Mitsubishi's advanced electric motor-in-wheel drivetrain and drive-by-wire technologies to create a striking urban vehicle with thought-provoking interior packaging.
The sassy and stylish Colt CZC also makes is world debut in production form. The Pininfarina-styled convertible - the third member of the Colt range - features a fully-automatic retractable hard-top for all-seasons driving versatility and security.
The third star on the Mitsubishi stand, and making its European debut, is Concept-X. A mouth-watering preview of the next generation Evolution line-up, Concept-X wraps turbo-charged power, clutchless transmission and an advanced new all-wheel-drive layout in jet fighter-influenced style.
The Mitsubishi Concept-EZ MIEV
The Concept-EZ MIEV makes its world premiere at this year's Geneva Motor Show and, as a showcase for the company's advanced automotive technology, takes pride of place on the Mitsubishi stand.
The brainchild of Mitsubishi Design Europe, the strikingly styled Concept-EZ advanced prototype demonstrates the dynamic, packaging and design benefits of MIEV (Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electric Vehicle), which uses ultra-compact electric motors that sit within the wheel hub itself.
Each of the Concept-EZ's 20inch wheels houses a 27bhp in-hub motor - for a total output of 108bhp - powered by a lithium-ion battery pack sandwiched beneath the car's flat floor.
By employing its MIEV technology in the 3700mm long Concept-EZ, Mitsubishi has liberated its engineers and designers from the traditional constraints imposed by internal combustion power and drivetrain, and have created an 'urban capsule' vehicle that provides unsurpassed interior packaging.
Concept-EZ's usable internal space has also been enhanced by the use of a retractable steering wheel, drive-by-wire technology and intelligent folding seats to create a space that's as equally adept at transporting passengers as it is providing them with an innovative and secure lounge area when they arrive.
The Mitsubishi Colt CZC
The Geneva Motor Show sets the stage for the world debut of the production version of Mitsubishi's new Colt CZC convertible, the third and arguably most striking member of the award-winning Colt line-up.
Colt CZC features a sleek and sophisticated retractable metal roof that automatically folds back at the touch of a button to provide year-round driving versatility. With its long wheelbase and intelligent engineering-lead packaging, Colt CZC boasts generous passenger and luggage space, even when the roof is retracted.

The well-appointed Colt CZC was styled and developed by Mitsubishi Design Europe in conjunction with Pininfarina with start of production at its Bairo plant near Turin scheduled for March. Colt CZC arrives in the UK in April priced at £13,999 for the standard 1.5 engine and £15,999 for the flagship CZC Turbo.
The Mitsubishi Concept-X
Mitsubishi's stunning Concept-X, first shown in Tokyo in October, makes its European debut in Geneva. With Advanced Super All Wheel Control drivetrain, powerful 2.0-litre turbo-blown engine and six-cog clutchless transmission, the Concept-X hints strongly at just what to expect from the next generation of Evolution cars.
In a distinct departure from the previous rally-inspired Evolution models the Concept-X, styled by Mitsubishi Design Europe, trades in its predecessor's stocky and foursquare proportions for sleeker and more rakish lines.
It's a dynamic and athletic look enhanced by its gaping air intake, louvered bonnet, hawk-eyed headlamps, chunky 20inch alloy wheels and bold rear spoiler. Beneath that sexy alloy-intensive sheetmetal lies some equally enticing hardware. Concept-X is powered by a turbo-charged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder MIVEC engine that drives all four wheels through a clutch-less six-speed gearbox.
Mitsubishi Sales Growth Surges Ahead
Mitsubishi Motors Europe notched up 265,685 sales in 2005, an increase of 17.7% and the third successive year of growth, with Russia, Germany and the UK leading the charge.
Against the backdrop of a difficult automotive market, Mitsubishi Motors UK posted an all-time new vehicle sales record of 38,345 units for 2005 - an impressive 6% increase over 2004 and its fifth successive year of growth. |
| Mitsubishi Ralliart's sixth Dakar Rally win |
Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart Team driver Luc Alphand and co-driver Gilles Picard clinched victory in the 28th Dakar Rally today (Sunday). The feat marked a record-breaking 11th win for the Japanese automotive manufacturer and the sixth successive triumph since the Millennium. Team mates Joan 'Nani' Roma and Henri Magne and Stephane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret finished third and fourth overall.
The outright success was the first for Alphand - last year's runner-up and a former World Downhill skiing champion - and the second for his French co-driver Gilles Picard, who had won the Dakar with fellow Frenchman Jean-Pierre Fontenay in 1998.
The French crew had taken the outright lead between Bamako in Mali and Labe in Guinea, when former winner Peterhansel crashed into a tree and damaged his rear suspension and transmission. Despite fierce pressure from second-placed South African driver Giniel de Villiers, Alphand took few risks over the closing three days of the 14-stage event to record a winning margin of 17m 53s after the final timed section near Dakar was cancelled.
My first attempt at the Dakar Rally ended with a seat in a helicopter and I never wanted to be in that position again, said Alphand. I knew I had a great chance to win. The team worked so hard on the development of our car and I think over the 15 days we were the better all-round team. It's a fantastic feeling to win the Dakar. I experienced many highs and lows in my skiing career, but this is so different.
Spaniard Roma had joined the Mitsubishi team for his first event in October 2005 and finished sixth on his Dakar debut in a car last year. On this occasion he and Andorra-based co-driver Magne finished a superb third overall in a second Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero Evolution.
It has been a fantastic race from the start, said Roma. All the time it has been close, exciting and very difficult for the drivers and the co-drivers. For me it is great to be on the podium. I am part of a superb team at Mitsubishi and everyone has worked so hard to achieve this success.
The French duo of Peterhansel and Cottret had moved into the outright lead of the event on the second of four stages through the Islamic Republic of Mauritania last week. But the eight-times winner struck a tree in 'Black Africa' and lost over three hours and any chance of taking a hat-trick of wins in Dakar.
I made a mistake a few days ago and with the level of competition we have seen this year on the Dakar, there was no way I could recover that time, said Peterhansel. Whether you finish fourth or fifth does not really matter. I am disappointed that I could not complete the hat-trick of wins, but Mitsubishi has won the race and that is the priority. It is also great for Luc and Gilles to take a first win together.
I am so happy for every member of our team, said Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart Team President Isao Torii. I would like to thank everyone for their work and thanks to our partners and sponsors for their efforts. I have been with this team for the last two victories and this was the most exciting of the races. It has been a privilege to be a part of this success and to see the French and Japanese members of the team working together so successfully. Tomorrow we will switch our focus to preparing to win the race for a seventh successive time in 2007.
Last year I could count our Dakar victories on two hands, joked a delighted Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart Team Director Dominique Serieys. But now we have won 11 times I have a missing finger! It was not an easy race, but our entire team showed complete motivation to reach our target of a sixth successive win. We have a smaller team and a smaller budget than our rivals, but we have performed superbly well.
I think the deciding factor on this year's Dakar was our overall team experience and the knowledge of our drivers, said Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart Team Technical Director Thierry Viardot. It was very close in the early stages, but I was confident that there were three days in Mauritania where Mitsubishi would have the advantage. We made a wise tyre choice when it mattered, our teams made only minor mistakes in the dunes and with the navigation and they coped well under pressure.

| Mitsubishi announces production, sales and exports for Nov 2005 |
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export results for November 2005.
Total global production was 122,798 units, an increase of 8.8 percent from November 2004. Domestically, 63,324 units were produced in the month, 18 percent more than the same period last year.
Total sales in Japan came to 21,110 units, or a 19.7 percent increase on the previous period's figure due to strong sales of the new SUV Outlander, which sold 3,226 units in November. This figure surpasses by 61.3 percent its monthly sales target of 2,000 units. Domestic sales have now increased year-on-year for seven consecutive months. Total sales for passenger cars were 14,132 units, 133.5 percent of last year's volume, while commercial vehicle sales slightly decreased to 6,978 units, or 98.9 percent year-on-year.
Overseas production for the month was stable at 59,474 units, or 100.4 percent of the amount manufactured in November last year. European production was down 46.4 percent compared to last year's volume, to 6,410 units, mainly due to the ceasing of production of Space Star and Pajero Pinin. An increase in China made a contribution to the total Asian production, which gained 6.3 percent year-on-year to 39,416 units. Production in North America, which saw a contribution from the production of the new Eclipse sporty coupe, also increased 43.5 percent to 8,568 units.
Total exports from Japan rose to 29,705 units, a 15.5 percent increase from last year's volume. Lead by healthy sales in Russia, exports to Europe increased to 9,464 units, or 69.9 percent more than the same period last year. Exports to Asia were stable at 3,489 units, or 101.2 percent year-on-year, while exports to North America dropped to 2,598 units, or 83.7 percent compared to the year before. |
| L200 pick-up set to take 2006 by storm |
The model line-up and pricing for the stunning new L200 pick-up have been announced by Mitsubishi Motors UK. In showrooms from the end of February, many prices have been reduced from the outgoing range with prices now starting at £12,249 CVOTR for the 4Work 4WD single cab rising to £19,999 CVOTR for the new range-topping double cab Elegance.
Keen pricing, generous specification, technical advancements and stunning styling make this new model an extraordinary proposition. The addition of a new more powerful engine, improved chassis and suspension plus the option of automatic transmission, super select 4WD and stability and traction control, makes this a pick-up range whose attraction will lie as much in its dynamic capabilities as its undeniable good looks.
Mitsubishi Motors has been instrumental in the massive growth of the UK pick-up market - a segment which has grown 347% in six years from 7,553 units to 33,742 at the end of 2004. During this time the L200 has become the undisputed king of the pick-ups with the outgoing model still commanding a massive 48% of the retail market, and we have absolutely no intention of relinquishing our crown commented Jim Tyrrell, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK.
Tyrrell went on to explain, Dealers have already taken a considerable number of L200 orders including cash deposits, so if the reaction so far ahead of the launch is anything to go by, we have a very successful new model on our hands.
With exterior styling based on Mitsubishi's 10 times Dakar conquering Pajero Evolution, the L200 is the only UK pick-up to offer SUV-like manoeuvrability with a 5.9 metre turning radius and the only one to have stability and traction control and super select 4WD as standard on all high series models (i.e. 80% of total L200 sales). The newly designed double cab also boasts class-leading rear legroom making it number one in the segment for passenger comfort. UK L200 Pick-Up Range 12 L200 derivatives will be available ranging from the practical single cab workhorse to the more luxurious Warrior and Animal double cabs. The newest member of the line-up, the L200 Elegance, combines a more subtle exterior with an equipment-packed interior and has been designed to appeal to the traditional SUV driver who wants the practicalities of a pick-up with the comfort, drivability and image of a more mainstream 4x4.
As with the current range, the L200 Warrior is expected to remain the best seller with its bold on-road image and high level of standard specification including 17 alloys, climate control, CD with MP3, alarm, keyless entry, central locking, power windows, power rear cab window, stability and traction control, super select 4WD, plus Warrior branded mats, door entry guards and exterior accessories. |
| First foot on the Mitsubishi training pathway |
Ten trainee automotive technicians have embarked on the first term of Mitsubishi Motors UK's four-year Advanced Modern Apprenticeship programme. The apprentices aged between 16 and 19, including Laura Underwood Mitsubishi's first female applicant, will complete a combination of 'on the job' training and residential courses based from Mitsubishi's head office in Gloucestershire. Around 120 students from across Great Britain have already successfully completed the programme since its creation in 2000.
Unlike most modern apprenticeship programmes, Mitsubishi Motors UK opens its doors to students aged 16 through to 25 years of age. To enhance the training environment no more than 12 students are enrolled per programme, in order to provide intensive one to one training. The four-year curriculum is split, with four two-week blocks of residential training taking place annually during the first three-years, followed by the fourth and final year based completely at the dealership.
On completion of the Mitsubishi Advanced Modern Apprenticeship students will have attained their BTEC National Certificate, NVQ3 qualification and Keyskills. In addition all apprentices complete three additional courses in 4-wheel alignment, air conditioning and alarm fitting for which they become Thatcham certified as part of their basic qualification.
The first two weeks of training at head office give the students an introduction to automotive engineering and an insight into the technical aspects of Mitsubishi vehicles, said John Thomas, Mitsubishi Motors Apprentice Programmes Controller. From here they will return back to their individual dealerships to put into practice what they have learned.
Our apprentice retention level is in the higher quartile, added Thomas. There is an enormous level of personal satisfaction observing the students during the four-year programme and seeing them develop into competent young individuals.
Mitsubishi Motors UK supports a three-tiered training pathway for all technical staff throughout the dealer network. By completing the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship, trainees will fast track to Technician level on the Mitsubishi training pathway. Providing the apprentice undertakes all of the courses on each stage of the training pathway it is possible for them to achieve the coveted Master Technician level after only two-years of completing their apprenticeship. |
| Mitsubishi to reveal the 2007 Eclipse Spyder |
Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will push the limits again with the world reveals of two more vehicles that thrill - the 2007 Eclipse Spyder and the Concept-CT MIEV - at the upcoming 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. The company is building its strongest product portfolio in history, launching six new vehicles in less than three years, including the all-new 2006 Eclipse, Raider mid-size pickup truck, and now the '07 Eclipse Spyder.
The Eclipse Spyder and the breakthrough Concept-CT continue the excitement of the brand and demonstrate new design directions and potential future technologies, said MMNA President and CEO Rich Gilligan. We are rebuilding our brand with products that consistently reinforce our commitment to being driven to thrill.
2007 Eclipse Spyder
Based on the widely acclaimed 2006 Eclipse coupe, the '07 Spyder will provide drop-top fun combined with head-turning design. Luxurious enhancements will place the affordable 2 + 2 convertible in an attainable exotic position. Both GS and GT trim lines will be available, each with a powerful MIVEC engine and 650-watt Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio system - along with a few other surprise features usually reserved for high-priced convertibles and cabriolets.
Concept-CT
The world reveal of the innovative Concept-CT MIEV will showcase a forward-thinking design study in B-segment packaging. The concept's inspiration was to create a city-technology model - a desirable small car optimized for today's needs. Designed at the Mitsubishi Motors design center in Cypress, Calif., the Concept-CT will feature a hybrid powertrain - incorporating a representative gasoline engine with Mitsubishi In-wheel motor Electronic Vehicle (MIEV) technology, a function recently shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, whereby the wheels are driven by four outer-rotor, in-wheel electric motors. Combining environmental technology and exciting design characteristics along with the all-wheel-drive MIEV system, the concept provides a glimpse into the future of next-generation hybrid powertrain vehicles. The in-wheel motor component systems, with accompanying graphics and video, will be displayed at the Mitsubishi NAIAS exhibit.
2006 Model Lineup
The full lineup of 2006 Mitsubishi Motors North American models also will be on display as well as a few unique models:
Street Raider Concept - Recently unveiled at the 2005 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, the Street Raider Concept is the ultimate, hot rod street truck inspired by classic customizers and hot rodders. The concept sports a smooth, clean appearance with shaved body protrusions, a custom grille accented with black chrome, and PPG White Tech Pearl exterior paint. A custom leather interior, lowered ride height, and specially designed 22-inch alloy wheels give the truck credence as a stylish street ride.
Lancer Evolution - Built on Mitsubishi's historic rally championship legacy, the 2006 Lancer Evolution represents the ninth generation of this high performance four-door sedan that continues to evolve with significant performance, rally styling and useful driver enhancements - raising the adrenaline of driving enthusiasts at every turn. The new Lancer World Rally Car, WRC05, will be shown before it begins racing for the FIA World Rally Championship. The WRC05 has significant performance improvements over the previous rally car including an increased body width and re-designed front and rear wings, rear quarters and bumpers to aid in stability and aerodynamics.
Eclipse - The 2006 Eclipse sports coupe is a serious thrill ride featuring exotic styling and great performance. Completely redesigned from the ground up for 2006, practically the only item this fourth-generation Eclipse has in common with the car it replaces is its name.
Raider - New for 2006, the Raider mid-size pickup truck embodies aggressive design cues and useful functionality to appeal to a new generation of truck buyers with upscale tastes and urban style. Raider blazes the trail as the only import nameplate truck in the mid-size class to offer a 4.7-liter, V8 engine which helps provide a class-leading 6,500-lb towing capacity.
Lancer - The 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer compact sedan hits the mark by featuring a redesigned front fascia, advanced safety upgrades and subtle interior enhancements to complement a spirited, solid and nimble ride - at a very competitive price.
Galant - Car buyers in the popular mid-size sedan market can have distinctive design, safety and performance, as well as functionality and practicality with the 2006 Mitsubishi Galant.
Outlander - The 2006 Outlander features more standard safety equipment, new visually exciting styling enhancements, and greater value. Its crossover SUV design turns utility and functionality into fun.
Endeavor - Defining the mid-size SUV segment by balancing the design, commanding driving position and utility of an SUV with the driving performance and handling of a car, the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor tackles daily driving, extended road trips or off-roading with ease. The new front grille gives it a fresh new appearance.
Montero - Comfortable on city streets or rugged terrain, the 2006 Mitsubishi Montero SUV features a powerful 3.8-liter, V6 engine. A sophisticated all-wheel drive system with locking differentials and seven-passenger seating give Montero unprecedented on or off-road versatility.
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) is responsible for all manufacturing, finance, sales, marketing, research and development operations of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in the United States. | Mitsubishi announce support for National competitors |
Mitsubishi Motors UK are pleased to announce the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Cup which will run as a Class for homologated Group N Lancer Evolutions in both the MSA National Gravel Rally and the Rallymasters Championships.
With the Evolution Challenge moving to the British Rally Championship in 2006, series organisers are aware that some Mitsubishi competitors may not wish to compete at International level and therefore now offer support for those who choose to enter National status events.
There will be two separate series': One which will follow all seven rounds of the MSA National Gravel Championship and another which will follow all six rounds of the Rallymasters Championship.
Vouchers, which can be exchanged for Mitsubishi parts, will be awarded to the first three competitors on each round and at the end of the year, the total prize fund value being in excess of £12,000.
Paul Brigden, General Manager for Ralliart, said:
We are pleased to offer continued support for Mitsubishi competitors at National level. We see this initiative as a way of providing feeder series' for the Evolution Challenge and trust it will give teams an incentive to compete in Lancers in both the MSA National Gravel and Rallymasters Championships.
Organisers are keen to point out that that these two series' are designed to support the Evolution Challenge, where again in 2006, registered competitors will be able to battle for the best prize in British rallying: The chance to become a Mitsubishi works driver in 2007.

| Mitsubishi's cross-country team victory |
Repsol Team driver Stephane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret crushed the opposition in the final round of this year's FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup, which finished in Dubai on Monday, November 14th.
Peterhansel had been using the event as a final pre-Dakar Rally skakedown and was fastest on the Prologue and all seven selective sections to take victory by the staggering margin of 3h 02m 29s. His Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero Evolution performed reliably throughout, giving the defending Dakar champion and his Mitsubishi team a major confidence boost before the Dakar Rally.
It was one of the most succesful motorsport weekends for Mitsubishi Motor Sports for many years, added MMSP's President Isao Torii. The second place on the WRC rally in Australia this weekend, the win here in Dubai and the good performances of our teams is the proof that motorsport is one of our key pillars in the corporate identity. We are confident for the future.
We started the year with a victory in Dakar and now we have finished the season with another win, said MMSP's Team Director Dominique Serieys. Nothing is ever easy, but this result proves we did a great job. Now we have to wait until January 15th to see if we can win the Dakar again. I think the team is ready. We have won the last four rallies here in Dubai and won 14 of the last 16 events with the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution.
Team mate Joan 'Nani' Roma completed the opening leg from Abu Dhabi to Moreeb in third position, after losing time in soft sand and with a sudden illness which forced him to stop in the stage on two occasions. His physical condition deteriorated over the next 48 hours and the Spaniard and Andorra-based co-driver Henri Magne were forced to miss the subsequent two legs while Roma recovered from a serious bout of food poisoning.
After incurring substantial time penalties, the pair resumed their pre-Dakar training on the fourth leg and set the second fastest time to move from 22nd to 18th in the overall standings. Roma was then second fastest again on the last two stages to reach the finish of his final pre-Dakar test session in positive spirits.
The event had been extended to six days this year for the first time and crews tackled five legs in the remote UAE deserts after one timed Prologue stage, near Dubai. The Mitsubishi Motors Repsol Team competed against an international field of 61 bikes, nine quads, 28 other cars and three trucks in a total route of 2,260 kms, of which 1,583 kms were competitive.

| Mitsubishi Motors announces results |
FY 2005 first-half results
Performance overview
Mitsubishi Motors consolidated net sales for the first half of fiscal 2005 (April 1 through September 30) totalled 991.3 billion yen, down 79.5 billion yen from the same period last year (1,070.8 billion yen) mainly as a result of lower OEM supply volumes in overseas markets. Mitsubishi Motors posted an operating loss of 19.8 billion yen, an improvement of 56.6 billion yen over the same period last year. Negative factors such as the drop in OEM supply volume stated above were offset by a number of favourable factors, including: lower depreciation costs as a result of asset impairment charges taken in the U.S. and Australia during the previous fiscal year; non-recurrence of one time charges resulting from the sales of sales-finance receivables in the U.S. financial services subsidiary; lower sales promotion costs, mainly advertising, in the U.S. and Europe; and lower warranty expenses. Mitsubishi Motors posted an ordinary loss of 33.6 billion yen, a year-on-year improvement of 77.0 billion yen, and a net loss of 63.8 billion yen, an improvement of 115.0 billion yen. The improvement in net loss was realized despite extraordinary losses stemming from asset impairment charges in Japan relating to new asset impairment accounting standards. Factors contributing to the improvement include the non-recurrence of the extraordinary losses booked last year, including costs for special measures (a free vehicle inspection program) and also the reduction in losses from the cancellation of new model development programs.
Sales volume
Global market sales of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in the first half of fiscal 2005 totalled 659,000 vehicles, an increase of 13,000 on the 646,000 sold in the same period last year. In Japan, Mitsubishi Motors sold 108,000 vehicles, an increase of 12,000 over the same period last year. Year-on-year increases in every month since May underscore the firm tone to the recovery in the company's performance in the domestic market. In North America, Mitsubishi Motors sold 81,000 vehicles, a decline of 11,000 over the same period last year. The decrease was mainly due to curbs on fleet sales and slower than expected sales of existing models. On a bright note, the new Eclipse introduced in May has made an encouraging start. In Europe, Mitsubishi Motors sold 131,000 vehicles, an increase of 19,000 over the same period last year. The increase was driven by robust sales in markets such as Russia, Germany and the U.K., assisted by the addition of two new models to the Colt line-up in March. In Asia and other markets, Mitsubishi Motors sold 339,000 vehicles, a slight decline of 7,000 over the same period last year. Sales increases in Oceania, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa failed to counter a downturn in markets such as North Asia.
Progress in FY 2005 business plan (announced May 23)
Financial results
First-half net sales exceeded the announced forecast of 980 billion yen.
First-half operating, ordinary and net losses were all smaller than the announced forecasts.
Sales performance
Global sales volume was 2% higher than the announced forecast of 647,000 vehicles.
Sales volume in Japan was 3% higher than the announced forecast of 105,000 vehicles.
Sales volume in North America was 8% below the announced forecast of 88,000 vehicles due to slow sales of existing models, despite encouraging initial sales of the new Eclipse model launched in May.
Sales volume in Europe slightly exceeded the announced forecast of 130,000 vehicles, while volume in Asia and other regions was 5% higher than the announced forecast of 324,000 vehicles.
Full-year forecasts
In a year-on-year comparison, the first half of fiscal 2005 shows a distinct improvement in terms of earnings despite lower net sales. Net sales and sales volume both exceeded the FY 2005 business plan forecasts, while losses were smaller. The first half results show a solid start to achieving the FY 2005 business plan. The company has, however, decided to leave the forecasts announced on May 23 unchanged because the forecasts contain higher second-half targets premised on substantial increases in sales volume expected from new model introductions. MMC has also factored in deterioration in the U.S. market environment and uncertainties about the impact of soaring oil prices on global economies. The company will instead concentrate all resources on achieving the full-year forecasts published at the beginning of the fiscal year. In view of the conditions currently at hand, the company has made minor adjustments to full-year sales volume forecasts for certain regions. Specifically, the company has revised volume for Japan upward by 3,000 vehicles to 256,000; has revised volume for North America downward by 15,000 vehicles to 169,000; and has revised volume for Asia and other regions upward by 12,000 vehicles to 691,000. (The full-year global sales volume forecast of 1,370,000 vehicles remains unchanged.)

| Mitsubishi and Smart sign agreement on engine supply |
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and smart gmbh, a 100 percent owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, have signed an agreement on engine supply. MMC will supply an engine of the same type as the turbo-charged engine to be used in i, MMC's new concept minicar due for launch in January 2006.
The engine will be further developed for use in smart's fortwo successor model. After the launch of the current smart fortwo in October 1998, its successor will be available from 2007 onwards.
MMC and DaimlerChrysler have been cooperating on various win-win projects in recent years and further ones are constantly in discussion. They generate substantial synergy effects for all partners and this engine supply agreement is another part of this cooperative relationship.
The engines to be supplied are the natural aspirated and turbo-charged engines based on the engine developed for i and will be produced at MMC's powertrain production facility in Mizushima, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
Together with the engine production for i MMC will be able to realize economies of scale through this agreement, thus lowering costs on a per-unit basis. |
